New Media in Libraries

Familiarity with new media, multimedia forms and applications of augmented reality, as well as ways of their creation and possibilities of use in all types of libraries.

Theoretical introduction

The program introduces the basics of new media, their importance and influence on contemporary trends in librarianship. It also provides basic knowledge for creating multimedia content and using digital technologies in modern librarianship.

Participants will learn about the most common multimedia formats and programs, how new media, digital tools, services, platforms, and augmented reality applications work, which can be used by the library in various ways.

 Interactive workshop

After the theoretical part, the participants will learn how to create, process and share digital content, for example:

– video tutorial

– audio/video announcement (trailer) for a book

– “triggered” digital content (Augmented reality)

Formats for:

-audio

-graphics/animation

-a video

Programs for:

-audio (Audacity, Natural Reader)

-graphics/animation (Gimp, Canva, Irfan View)

-video (Shotcut, ScreencastOmatic, Adv screen recorder)

Augmented Reality (AR) Apps (Aurasma, ARKit, Quiver) 

Necessary prerequisites

Advanced knowledge of information and communication technologies, computer literacy, good knowledge of working on the Internet, as well as the English language are necessary.

Required equipment

– Computers (as many as there are course participants)

-Headsets with a microphone, web cameras (it would be desirable if every computer had a camera), internet.

Duration of the course

The course lasts 1 day, 6 hours. The number of participants is up to 8.
