The calendar was published annually from 1854 to 1914. First, it was entitled Kalendar sa šematizmom Knjažestva Srbije, in 1891 it changed its title to Šematizam Kraljevine Srbije s kalendarom. In 1894 it was entitled Državni kalendar Kraljevine Srbije – the title by which it is known today. Beogradski veliki kalendar by Miloš Popović was considered its predecessor in 1852 and 1853. The calendar regularly published an overview of names of foreign diplomats in Serbia, government organs in the country and all officers in ministries and institutions. At the back, it published an alphabetical register of names, though not always.
